FAQ

How does it work?

Magpie is an ad network for Twitter. Our customers sign up and create campaigns, which consist of magpie-tweets (i.e. ads). Twitterers get paid to allow us to post magpie tweets among their tweets.

So, you're paying me for watching advertisements?

Not at all! Ultimately we aim to match the appropriate Magpie-Twitterer with the right advertiser. We would never expect you to tweet about topics that aren't naturally topics of interest for you, as this would at best annoy your followers and at worst -- jeopardize the success of your twitter account.

Will I get random magpie-tweets?

Magpie-tweets are carefully selected by our service. You'll only get magpie-tweets that match the topics you're twittering about. Plus, we will let you pre-approve all magpie-tweets, so that you're not advertising stuff you don't like.

How often are you twittering magpie-tweets?

You decide, this is totally up to you. Once every ten tweets is our default, but you can choose to have one magpie-tweet per 200 tweets or a one to one ratio. Our advice is to listen to what your followers tell you. You can always adjust the ratio later.

Is Magpie limited to any one region?

No, like Twitter, Magpie is a global initiative. We work with clients from all over the world.

Are there any requirements to be involved?

Only two. You need to have a Twitter account (of course!) and a PayPal account to receive your payments.

Earn more? Earn less? How much do I earn anyway?

There are a number of compensation models offered. These are: Pay-per-view, Pay-per-click, Pay-per-lead and Pay-per-sale. Each model provides you with different earning opportunities. At the pre-approval stage, you will be made aware of the compensation model linked to a particular campaign, enabling you to make an informed decision as to if you want to participate or not.

So how do these compensation models work?

  • Pay-per-Sale: Here you get a cut of the sale price when one of your followers buys something on one of our customer's sites through one of your tweets. This is perhaps the most lucrative of the compensation models.
  • Pay-per-Lead: Every time one of your followers enquires about a service or joins up for a subscription or the like, you get compensated (compensation rates tend to be 15% greater than Pay-per-View, depending on the campaign)
  • Pay-per-Click: You get paid every time one of your followers clicks on a link. Currently Magpie's click rate is double that of any other online advertising.
  • Pay-per-View: You get paid a base amount for allowing a tweet to be placed in your stream - this amount depends on the number of your followers and the hotness of your tweets.

Hotness of my tweets?

Yup. We know you're hot - no doubt! With the Pay-per-View model, our customers bid on certain keywords. If their keywords match your topic area, they qualify. The customer with the highest bid gets his magpie-tweet posted. So, the more customers are competing for your timeline, the more you'll earn. Of course, bidding and stuff happens automatically.

So after every magpie-tweet you're sending out a check?

Magpie keeps an account for you. To cash out your earnings, your account balance needs to be up to $ 50.00. Once you've reached that amount, you can transfer the money to your PayPal account. Transfer fees and charges are on us, of course!

Will I get every ad that I pre-approve?

The simple answer to this is no, but we're trying hard to make sure you do! A Magpie campaign takes into consideration a number of factors, these being: the best match for a campaign; the bid cost for an advertiser to utilize any one Twitterer; the feed rate as dictated by the Twitterer and finally an advertisers budget. We look at these factors before we send you a magpie-tweet for approval and then review them again once you've approved a magpie-tweet. If for some reason, the factors change in between - we might not be able to actually deliver the magpie-tweet.

Can I use my earnings to advertise with Magpie?

Sure, we have a number of Magpie-Twitterers who use their money earned by twittering for other companies to promote their own. Simply navigate to your Account tab within your Magpie-Twitterer account to see how it works.

Are you affiliated with Twitter?

No. We are Magpie & Friends Ltd., based in Europe. We are in no way affiliated or associated with Twitter, Inc. in San Francisco. If you have the impression that we're using names, trademarks or logos in an inappropriate way or in a way that makes you think we are Twitter, please let us know.

It says that I can earn commission when I refer someone to Magpie, how does this work?

That's right, you can earn a 30% commission on our transaction fees when an advertiser signs up to Magpie by clicking on your referral link. How it works: Once an advertiser has deposited monies into their new account and their campaign has commenced - you will be rewarded. To get involved, just click on the promote tab within your Magpie account and get your personal referral link.

Can I add a disclaimer to my Magpie Tweets?

By default, Magpie tweets are flagged with 'ad:'. However, you are free to customize the position and the string of your disclaimer field in the section "customize disclaimer" of your dashboard page.

Can I pause my account, like when I'm away, sleeping or just want a break?

Sure - you are totally in control. To suspend your account simply hit the "Stop Earning" button on your dashboard. Reactivating your account is just as simple, this button will now read "Start Earning." Simply click on this.

What happens if I change my mind and I don't want to be involved?

You can suspend or delete your Magpie-Twitterer account at any time. To suspend your account, simply hit the "Stop Earning" button on the start tab. To delete your account, simply hit the "Delete" button on the settings tab.
