At Magpie we are conscious of our ethical responsibility when it comes to Twitter advertising. As a member of the Word of Mouth Marketing Association (WOMMA), and a Twitter whitelisted application provider, we are committed to ensuring our network provides a positive and safe experience to all participating.
We are committed to ensuring our standards are maintained and closely manage issues of disclosure, content and an individual’s rights to control. Outlined below are measures we have implemented to ensure this is upheld at all times.
Disclosure is imperative in honest and ethical word of mouth marketing. As such, all Magpie twitterers disclose their relationship with Magpie and our advertisers through two means:
As the first Twitter advertising network we have fostered disclosure in microblogging since the launch of our platform. Disclosure of recommendation marketing is required for the USA by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Even though Magpie is a global platform, we have made these strict rules our standard and apply them to all Magpie campaigns globally since late 2008.To learn more, read a recent blog post.
Both twitterers and advertisers have 100% control over who tweets, what is sent and when a message is tweeted. As an advertiser you can select, approve and block twitterers from your campaigns based on the number of their followers, their bio, or former performance. As a twitterer you have the control to approve what campaigns you're interested in tweeting and when they appear in your timeline, plus in some cases you also have the opportunity to rephrase in your own words.
As a default, twitterers can only tweet the same ad once within a 24hr period. However, we provide advertisers with the opportunity to elect a prefered limitation, from only once ever through to twice a day.
To protect our advertisers' and twitterers' reputation, we strongly enforce the following:
Twitterers whose twitter activity is automated at an unusually high rate of messages or use methods of tweeting that are identified as disreputable do not qualify for participation in the Magpie network.
Accounts that are generating more than a certain threshold of content that is not their own are suspended and ultimately deleted if not rectified.
Before a campaign can be aired on the Magpie network, the proposed message and link are screened by our compliance team. Magpie will not publish messages that promote or contain any content that is in violation of our advertising terms. All campaigns containing or relating to sexually explicit, violent, illegal, or otherwise offensive or deceptive services or goods are strictly turned down and are not permitted access to the network.
Magpie is no place for multi-level or pyramid marketing schemes, nor any kind of "make money quick" program.
By allowing twitterers to rephrase messages, advertisers are allowing them to review their service or product and find what they think is the best aspect to highlight to their followers. It will also ensure that the messages being aired throughout Twitter are not repetitive or spam like.
If you have experienced a Magpie ad that you feel is in violation of our terms and guidelines, please let us know.
